What is Dokusan?
Dokusan is a private meeting between a student and teacher—a space for honest inquiry and direct guidance. Whether you’re working with a koan, struggling in your zazen, or simply seeking clarity, dokusan offers a moment of connection rooted in trust, attention, and the immediacy of practice. Dokusan is an essential part of the student–teacher relationship in Zen.
Shinge Roshi offers these short one-on-one sessions on the 2nd and 4th Sundays and 3rd Thursday evenings when she is present, and always during sesshin.
